Professional Highlights    

Skip was born in St. Paul and is a life-long resident of Minnesota.  He attended Randolph Heights Elementary School and Central High School.   He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1968 with a five- year Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering.  He has studied business and management through various programs at 3M, some which were taught by outside consultants engaged by 3M and by the University of Minnesota.

His professional highlights include employment at the University of Minnesota, Sperry Univac, Control Data Corporation and The 3M Company.  Skip retired from 3M after nearly 34 years of service in1998.  He started his career at 3M as an electronic technician in 1964 and finished his career in 1998 as the Worldwide Manager of Technical Services for the Safety & Security Services Division.

His career experience was centered on electronic design, electromagnetic compatibility and product safety & compliance.  Later he managed a development laboratory consisting of some twenty engineers and technicians. Most recently he managed the global Technical & Field Service organization, consisting of some twelve personnel in this country and more personnel in both Europe and Asia.  In this capacity, he was responsible for product service and training publications.

Skip is a long time member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and member of various sections of the IEEE.  Most recently, he has been a participant in the EMC (Electro- Magnetic Compatibility) section and the local EMC chapter.  He remains a member after retirement because of his involvement in the important BPL issue.

He has written articles for several magazines, including “RF Design.” He has made presentations to several professional and industrial groups.  He currently holds several patents assigned to 3M, several others assigned to the Tech Logic Corporation, and one other recently filed on his own behalf.
